What is Involved in Completing CNA Training in New Jersey?

After taking the steps to become certified as a nurse aide in New Jersey, you may find that many doors will open up to you. It is exciting to know that with a little ongoing education, your career as a CNA could lead you to bigger and better positions such as an RN or LPN. Enrollment and Completion of CNA Classes in New Jersey

Step 1:

Find an approved program in your state:

CNA classes in New Jersey have to be at least an accumulation of 90 hours of training in order to qualify students to sit for the certification exam. Fifty of these hours needs to spend in a classroom setting, while the remaining 40 hours will be spent receiving hands-on instruction in a medical setting.

Step 2:

Complete a CNA training program.

The classroom portion of your training will be spent learning basic nurse aide skills such as medical terminology, understanding the concepts of patient rights, and how to identify abuse amongst their clients. You will also most likely learn how to respond to emergency situations as well.
The hands-on portion of your CNA training will occur within a medical setting, such as a retirement community or hospice care setting. You will learn how to change bedding, feed and bath incapacitated patients, and handle emergency situations of all types. Handling a variety of medical scenarios is a part of every nurse aides job, so it is good to be prepared for any situation before heading into the workforce.

CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in New Jersey

Step 1:

Find a New Jersey CNA certification testing center.

Fees are associated with the testing and registration process, so find the current figures from the registry, as well.

Step 2:

Prepare for the CNA certification exam in New Jersey by reviewing what you learned during your training and taking practice tests.

Step 3:

Take and pass the New Jersey CNA certification exam.

During the two part test, you will be quizzed on clinical skills first. The skills test involves completing five nurse aide demonstrations. Upon completion of these demonstrations, you will be graded by an instructor. You have to get 80% or better accuracy on the skills portion in order to proceed to the written portion.

On the written portion, which is taken on a computer, you will have a few moments to get familiar with the testing process before you begin. You are allowed a maximum of two hours to finish the 70 question test.

Once you’ve completed the entire exam, your results will be calculated. If you pass both parts of the test and have fulfilled the CBI requirements, you will receive your laminated certification and you will be listed on the New Jersey State Registry.

Step 4:

Once you’ve passed the certification exam, you’ll be well on your way toward starting your  New Jersey CNA career. At this point, you will need to write your resume and start looking for employment.
