What is Involved in Completing CNA Training in South Carolina?

If you wish to receive a certificate to work as a nurse aide in South Carolina, you are required to take a South Carolina Department of Health approved CNA training program. From there, you must go on to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination.

After the completion of both class and exam, you will be certified in South Carolina. From there, you can choose to work as a CNA, or you take additional classes to become a LPN or RN.

Enrollment and Completion of CNA Classes in South Carolina

Step 1:

Find an approved program in your state:

The Department of Health mandates that anyone wishing to enroll in a CNA training program must pass a criminal background check, and undergo a complete physical. You should also be current on your shot records and be able to show proof of this.

The course itself should include a bare minimum of 80 hours of study time in a classroom as well as in a licensed medical establishment.

Step 2:

Complete your CNA training program.

During your training, you will learn about all aspects of working as a CNA, from day to day duties to emergency situations. This will include lessons on such things as cleanliness, resident care, hospice care, medical terminology, and CPR skills. You will also have the chance to gain hands-on experience during training in a clinical setting.

CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in South Carolina

Step 1:

Prepare for your CNA certification exam, by reviewing what you’ve learned in your CNA training program. You can also take practice tests to help you determine which areas you may need to concentrate on.

Step 2:

Take and pass the CNA exam in South Carolina, which is administered by Pearson Vue.

The exam will cover two major areas of your CNA class’s topics. The first is your knowledge of nursing assistant skills and the second is your demonstration of those skills in an active environment. The tests take around two and a half hours to finish. You will be made aware of your testing scores shortly after you finish the exam. If you pass the test, your CNA certification with the South Carolina registry will be official.

Step 3:

Once you’ve passed your CNA certification exam, you will most likely be excited to start looking for work in this field. However, it is recommended that you create your resume first. Your resume should include information about your education, CNA training, skills, certification, and experience.

The South Carolina Department of Employment lists the CNA salary at $21,090 annually for the nurse aide who holds certification in South Carolina. There is also a foretold 19% rate of growth within this field over the next decade, so securing solid employment should prove relatively easy.
