Step 2:
Complete your CNA training.
Curriculum provided in your training will cover the very basics of nurse aide job duties, as well as some other more complex duties. CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in Tennessee
Step 1:
Register to take your CNA certification exam. This test is administered by D&S Diversified Technologies, and registration for the test costs $90.
Step 2:
Prepare for your Tennessee CNA exam by reviewing the information that you learned in your CNA training program. You should also consider taking several practice tests before taking the real test, as this will help you identify areas that you may need to study more.
Step 3:
Pass the Tennessee CNA certification exam, which consists of two parts.
The first part of the exam is a written test. This will test you on nearly everything that you learned during your training. During this part of the exam, you will have 90 minutes to answer 75 multiple choice questions. You must score at least a 75% on this portion of the test.
The second portion of the exam, the skills portion of the exam, requires you to actively demonstrate that you are familiar with nursing assistant tasks. You must score 80% on this portion of the exam in order to pass.
Step 4:
Once you pass your CNA certification exam, you will most likely be very excited to start looking for a job. Before you do this, however, take the time to create a strong resume. Your resume will be one of the most instrumental aspects of securing employment as a CNA, and it should highlight your training, skills, and experience.
There is a predicted 21 percent increase within the nurse aide field over the next decade, so finding a great job should not be too complicated. The average CNA salary in Tennessee is $21,900 each year, but your actual starting wages will depend on what area of the state you choose to live and work.
