Becoming a CNA in Indiana

If you are interested in becoming a certified nurse aide in Indiana, you may will be thrilled to know that you can make this happen in a little as six weeks. To get started on a new and exciting career path, you first need to enroll in and successfully complete a CNA Training Program in Indiana. Programs that will qualify you to take the state mandated CNA certification exam will be accredited and approved by the Department of Health in Indiana.

Enrollment and Completion of CNA Classes in Indiana

Step 1:

Find an approved program in your state:

When you go to enroll, keep in mind that you will have to undergo a criminal background check and a full physical. You will need to be at least 18 years of age and have obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to applying for enrollment to CNA classes in Indiana.

Step 2:

The state of Indiana Department of Health requires that anyone wishing to become a CNA must complete a program that includes at least 30 hours of structured classroom education. A proper CNA training program must provide students with a minimum of 75 hours of clinical training in a medical setting,  performing hands-on procedures. Student must have finished a minimum of 16 hours in the program before they are allowed to take part in clinical rotations that involve hands on skills and patient interaction.

Step 3:

Training programs in Indiana allow you to learn the basics of nursing and how to implement them on a day to day basis. This includes receiving instruction on how to take vital signs, write patient records and how to deal with the day to day needs of all types of patients and residents. The courses will also include training on how to give CPR, how to deal with an emergency situation,  and a number of other methods that nurse aides use when helping nurses administer treatment to the patient.

CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in STATE

Step 1:

Upon completing your  CNA classes in Indiana, you will be ready to take on the challenge of the nurse aide certification examination. Hopefully, you enrolled in an accredited program that provided  you with the minimum course requirements that qualify you to sit for the exam.  You can find more details about that in our CNA training in Indiana section.

Step 2:

You will need to preregister for exam, as often testing dates fill up early. There is an increased need for nurse aides in Indiana right now because of a large staff shortage at many of the training schools. With the staff shortage, less students are being accepted and testing can be delayed. However inconvenient that may be.
In Indiana, you may be able to take the CNA certification exam at the facility where you trained, many students choose to register at the Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana in order to take the test. There are two parts of the exam that the certified nursing assistant will be tested on, and they include an evaluation of hands-on nursing abilities and a written exam.

The scoring works on a percentage ratio and is based on the amount of questions that are answered right. If a passing grade is earned on the exam, your name will then be put on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry and you can get started on that job search. Many testing sites can tell you what your score is immediately, while others will opt to mail your final results.  Average CNA salary in Indiana averages $ 23,000 a year, and additional salary will come along with additional certifications and skill you may learn, and of course, with time on the job. The job opportunities within this field are expected to rise nearly 17 percent over the next decade, so you can look for ward to plentiful career options.

Step 3:

Upon Approval you will be added to the nurse registry and will then be eligible for employment.  Look for jobs in specialized nursing facilities, HHA agencies, hospitals, and assisted living facilities.  Fill out a profile and resume in our database to quickly get your application out to different employers.
