CNA Certification in Massachusetts

There is currently a high need for nurse aides in Massachusetts due to drastic increases in the population, as well as the increasing need for trained professionals to care for the elderly. This rapidly expanding career allows you to work with patients in a medical setting, and your job is to assist nurses and doctors in the care of patients or residents of a facility. Naturally, if you want to be listed on the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry, you will need to get some training and then pass a licensing exam.

Nurse aide candidates can take the state required certification exam after they have finished a state approved program with no less than 100 course hours of study. The tests are administered by several testing sites within the state but most commonly at the Red Cross. Often, the place where you took your CNA training in Massachusetts will be an approved testing site. Registration can be done online and a date for testing will be scheduled by mail within 26 days of the time of your application. The test costs $93 dollars initially and is comprised of both a written and a clinical portion.

Two forms of ID must be shown on the day of the test and it is a good idea for you to show up at least half and hour early. This allows you time to check in with the test administrators and complete any last minute paperwork that may be required. You may be asked to bring along fingerprint ID cards as well, so make certain to read all the instructions within your registration information.

The first part of the exam consists of five randomly chosen physical skills that demonstrate your ability to perform the basic job functions of a CNA in Massachusetts. If you pass this portion, you will then be permitted to take the second part of the CNA certification exam. This typically consists of 50-60 multiple choice questions that are designed to test what you learned in your CNA training classroom time. There will be a few reading comprehension question inserted into this section, as well.

Once the exam is taken, results will often be provided instantly, but the certificate will not arrive until a few weeks later by mail. It is at that time that the nurse aide will also be listed on the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry.
