What is Involved in Completing CNA Training in Nevada?

Working in a medical setting as a CNA has its rewards. Many nurse aides find tremendous personal rewards working with other health professionals and caring for disabled or elderly patients who may not have anyone else to help them. With the recorded number of elderly patients rising quickly, there is a significant need for qualified applicants to become certified nursing aides.

Individuals looking to become certified as nurse aides in the state of Nevada must meet specific eligibility requirements. First of all, they must complete CNA training that is listed as being a valid course of study by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

Once the CNA classes are  complete, they must complete the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program examination (NNAAP). Then the aide will have to contact the Nevada State Board of Nursing and fill out the Application for Certified Nursing Assistant certification, requesting that they are certified and placed on the Nevada State Nurse Aide Registry.

Enrollment and Completion of CNA Classes in Nevada

Step 1:

Find an approved program in your state.
Find a CNA Training Program

Approved CNA training programs must include 75 hours of class instruction.  To enroll in a CNA training program in Nevada, you must also pass a criminal background check and undergo a complete health screening.

Step 3:

Complete a CNA training program.

A portion of your training will occur in a medical setting where you will get hands-on experience. These courses are designed to give you the experience it takes to successfully pass the licensing exam, as well as to properly perform your duties on a day to day basis. Part of the required coursework may cover CPR certification, but if not, check out your local Red Cross Association to earn this certificate.

CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in Nevada

Step 1:

Locate a CNA certification exam testing center.

The licensing exam can often be taken at the facility where you took your classes, but you may need to preregister at another facility.

Step 2:

Prepare for the CNA certification exam. You can do this by taking practice tests. These tests will give you a good idea of which areas you need to review.

Step 3:

Take the Nevada CNA certification exam.

The first part of the exam is designed to test your active nurse aide skills that you practiced in your hands-on training. You will have no more than 35 minutes to perform the randomly chosen tasks on a volunteer in front of the testing administrator. Often, candidates are required to take this section first before moving on to the written exam.

The written part of the exam contains 55 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 2 hours. These questions will cover a variety of skills that you learned throughout your CNA training program. They may also contain a few reading comprehension questions to ensure that you are proficient in the English language.

If you pass both parts, you are considered immediately certified. However, it may take up to four months for you to appear on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry.

Step 4:

Create your resume after you’ve passed the certification exam. You will need a solid resume that highlights your education, skills, certification, andexperience, so you can land a great CNA job.

There is a reported 29% growth rate for the next 6 years in the CNA position according to the Nevada Department of Employment. The current listed median CNA  salary  in Nevada is $28,585, and your earnings will rise along with experience in the field.

You can also choose to further your education by taking RN or LPN courses. After completing these courses, you will then be qualified for more lucrative job opportunities.
