What is Involved in Completing CNA Training in Alabama?

If you are interested in getting your CNA training in Alabama in efforts to pursue state certification, there are a number of excellent institutions where you can quickly accomplish this goal. Many programs are offered within technical schools, colleges, and local hospitals or retirement communities. Be sure to make certain that the school you choose is approved by the Alabama Department of Health.  Becoming a CNA can bring forth great career opportunities and really open up the field of healthcare to the pursuant.

Enrollment and Completion of CNA Classes in Alabama

Step 1:

Find an approved program in your state:

There are a few prerequisites that you need to meet prior to enrolling for CNA classes. Due to the nature of a nurse aide’s work, you will need to have a clean criminal record, particularly concerning any sort of chemical or substance abuse issue.  You will need to have a high school diploma or a GED to be considered as a candidate for any program.   Futhermore, be prepared to take a physical exam, to shows that you are physically capable of performing this job.   This job can be physically intensive, so it is important that you understand your bodies limits and its ability to lift and move patients.

Step 2:

To qualify to sit for the state licensing exam, your program needs to provide you with a total 120 hours of training. Forty of these need to take place in a practical environment performing clinical procedures. The majority of programs that provide nurse aide training can be completed in six to eigtht weeks. Courses that you will be attending will cover topics such as CPR certification, basic medical terminology, the signs of aging, recognizing changes in patient status, and the process of caring for all the day-to-day needs of patients in your charge.

        CNA Testing Procedures and Applying for CNA Certification in Alabama

        Step 1:

        Your CNA certification in Alabama will be awarded to you after you successfully pass the exam.  This must be done within 2 years of the class completion.  You should start by filling out an application through the NACES website. They will ask you to provide them with confirmation of  your identity and documentation of your CNA training completion. If you are being sponsored by a current employer, you should provide that information at the time of testing, as well.  The exam will test your competency level in 2 areas. The first portion of the exam is a written examination and the second will be an assessment of your ability to perform care skills proficiently. The written section is graded by computer and the skill section is graded by your proctor.

        Step 2:

        The Written Examination and oral examination each are comprised of 60 questions and are conducted via the NNAACP.   There will also be a skills portion of the testing that will be performed by your proctor.   For additional information regarding this testing process visit the NNAAP FAQS page.

        Step 3:
